About the Course

The Feeling on Carnoustie Golf Links: The Championship Course

Carnoustie Golf Links: The Championship Course is one of the courses that every golfer wants to play. Voted the World’s Best Golf Course in 2019, The Championship Course has hosted eight Open Championships and two Women’s Opens. This makes Carnoustie one of the most memorable golf courses that you’ll ever play. This bucket list venue is also referred to as the toughest course on The Open rotation. Consequently, The Carnoustie Golf Links’ Championship Course rightfully earns its title as Golf’s Greatest Test and will challenge every golfer who visits. Each hole on The Championship Course will make you think about every shot. Once you start, Carnoustie’s Championship Course grabs hold of your golfing imagination as the immersive landscape takes you on a journey as you play your round.

It seems as if that deep breath you take on the first just before teeing off is only exhaled after stepping off at the 18th green.

The Championship Course

Furthermore, the first recorded round of golf played on this links course was from 1527. In 1842, Alan Robertson designed a 10-hole course, and in 1857, Old Tom Morris designed an 18-hole course. James Braid extended the layout in 1926, and that essentially forms the links we see today. As you progress through the course, every step is worth savouring. You will walk the old links taking the same delight in the challenges of this incredible course that has tested golfers for hundreds of years, encountering unique features and hazards that are unique to these famous Scottish links. A wonderful feature of Carnoustie is The Championship Course’s exposure to the elements. The Course design takes advantage of this to challenge players with changing wind directions for every shot. Consequently, choose your shot carefully on 6, fondly named Hogan’s Alley after the great golfer himself, keep out of the Spectacles bunkers at 14, and plan to land your shot neatly on the Island formed by the famous Barry Burn on 17.

Importantly, play The Championship Course at Carnoustie Golf Links and follow in the footsteps of legends on a links course that has played host to the world’s greatest golfers and produced many of golf’s most dramatic moments.

This is Scottish Links golf at its absolute best.
