The Trophy

About the Trophy and the Artist

The Winner’s Trophy is splendidly impressive in a manner that befits the World Golf Amateur Champion. We commissioned Ted Secombe, one of Australia’s most significant and accomplished ceremic artists and sculptors to create the trophy.

Ted’s practice has focused on artworks in the decorative area where he has always aimed to create pieces of the highest quality and beauty. His career has spanned over 40 years and during that time he has exhibited in many International, solo and group exhibitions covering Asia, Europe, UK, NZ and the USA. He has also held over 30 solo exhibitions within Australia.

Ted is recognised as a member of the International Academy of Ceramics. His artworks are featured in Australia’s foremost public collections, including the National Gallery of Australia and most state collections. His artworks have also been acquired for 40 public collections worldwide and a significant number of his artworks are housed in corporate collections including Etihad Towers Abu Dhabi, Ritz Carlton Singapore, Conrad Hilton Singapore, and Crown Towers Melbourne Australia.

“When commissioned to create bespoke trophies for World Golf Competition a new set of challenges had to be met outside my regular studio practise. Being a multimedia artist facilitated the production of trophies that have a different visual appeal brought about by using polished stainless steel, bronze and porcelain. I have created these trophies in an attempt to elicit a response of awe in the viewer.”
